I'm not saying don't back up!

I'm saying use a better tool to do it.

Microsoft has a long and disappointing history when it comes to backing up. It's always puzzled me, given how critically important backing up is, but ... it is what it is.

The backup program included in Windows is to be avoided, even Microsoft says you should use third party tools. Alrighty, then.

Don't Use Windows Built-in Image Backup has the details.

Also this week

  • Online petitions are mostly pointless, and even harmful.
  • Deleting cookies is mostly pointless, but benign.
  • NAS devices are cool, and a great way to repurpose an older machine.
  • Contacts are easy(ish) to transfer between Hotmail/Outlook.com accounts.

As always, links below.

TEH Podcast

All sorts of topics on thie week's episode, including my zippy new internet speed, using commas or periods in numbers, math is hard (particularly if you're an AI, apparently), Google's update to their authenticator app, school laptops wearing out and what might need to be done about it. As always we share what's cool this week, as well as pointing you at a couple of the items we think are paritcularly relevant on our sites.

TEH 190: Zippy internet. ChatGPT can't do math? Authenticators, and broken school laptops.
