CHKDSK is an odd beast
More often than not you can't run it on the drive you want to because that drive's the system drive and it's in use.
Fortunately Windows will let you schedule it to run on the next reboot ... but what if it doesn't?
It's not common, but it's a great example of how you can still run CHKDSK, or any of a number of other command line tools, no matter what.
This week's featured article, Running CHKDSK When CHKDSK Won't Run, has the details.

TEH Podcast
We're back! In this episode we talk about the sound of my voice, or rather, the sound of my synthesized voice, as well as Gary's, and someone else who isn't even on the show! It's trivially easy to make happen, and anyone can do it.
Also the dominance of VOIP, even for what we once called a "land line", my massive(ish) external drive, and lot's of other things to catch up on.
TEH 187: Pretend voices for good or evil. VOIP can do anything.

A workaround.
Normally, you can request CHKDSK be run on the system drive at the next reboot. If that doesn't work, there is another way.
