Confident Computing #823 - Should I Use FAT32 or NTFS on a Flash Drive?

This week's articles & videos

Filesystems confuse people because filesystems are confusing. Smile

One somewhat common question is which you should use on a thumbdrive or flash memory card. Should it be NTFS? FAT32? Perhaps something else?

This week's featured article Should I Use FAT32 or NTFS on a Flash Drive? The Differences, and a Third Alternative discusses the pros and cons of the various alternatives.

Also this week: Why we all get spam that looks like it wasn't sent to us (but it was); How to know if your computer's been hacked (you can't, but there may be clues); And how to bypass keyloggers (honestly, it's more why you can't, and what to do instead).

In addition to videos accompanying the articles above, this week on YouTube I rail against, and remove, Gmail's tabbed inbox, I explain what happened when I pounded on my keyboard, we look at what "no signal" really means, and we run a full scan using Windows Defender.

Disappearing Books!

Last reminder that I'll be removing several books from The Ask Leo! Store at the end of the month. In case you want to grab a copy before they disappear, now's the time. Don't forget to use your discount code included near the bottom of every emailed newsletter.

In other news...

The past few weeks have been particularly hectic as I've been preparing to be the master of ceremonies (actually co-host, this year) of a non-profit's fund raising auction. In years past this has been an in-person event, but that's not in the cards this year.

We've gone completely virtual.

Not only will I be streaming live on video, but I've been recording and editing videos like crazy to be used before, during, and after the event.

In case you're at all curious, it's next Saturday (though the auction opens earlier). More info:WASART's Raise the Hoof Online Auction.

There may be Corgis. Smile
