Happy Thanksgiving!

Thursday is the Thanksgiving Holiday here in the United States.

I have so much to be thankful for . . . so much. I want to share just two here today:

  • I'm thankful for Andrea, Connie, Mary Beth, and Mark -- my assistants and editor who help keep the wheels turning here at Ask Leo!.
  • I'm thankful for you, allowing me to take up a little room in your inbox each week. And of course thankful for my patrons who help me pay for it all, as well!

I hope you have lots to be thankful for as well. If you're celebrating, a very Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Algorithms

We've heard a lot about "the algorithm", of late, and how it's impacting our consumption of media, pariticularly on social media sites like Facebook.

There is no single algorithm, of course, but the goals of the various services are certainly similar: to get you to spend more time on those services.

This week's featured article discusses just what "algorithm" means, how it works on social media sites, and perhaps most importantly, the steps I take to avoid it where I can.

Also this week: switching to Linux, that thing called RSS, and how not to bypass keystroke loggers.

All the links are down below.

TEH Podcast

Another update on my laptop woes, including its replacement. My Windows 11 woes, and why the new laptop has Windows 10. A carnival of game-related weirdness. The metaverse! It was a surprisingly full episode!

TEH 147: Tech updates continue, weird conferences and Metaverse games

No episode next week, due to the holiday.

Again, a very Happy Thanksgiving to all!
