Confident Computing #831 - How to Remove PUPs and Other Unexpected Things From Your Computer

This week's articles & videos

You install "wonderful application" (or worse, you simply update "wonderful application"), and all of a sudden you realize you also got "not so wonderful" other application, or a toolbar in your browser, or a security suite you never wanted.

Welcome to the world of PUPs -- Potentially Unwanted Programs -- though there's rarely any "Potentially" about it.

This week's featured article is all about showing them the door. (No actual canines were harmed in the creation of this article. Smile)

Also this week: there's a lot of stuff in Task Manager's Startup list; what can you disable? (My most common response: "it depends".) Yes, your security software might be slowing you down. (It's one of the reasons I chose my recommendation.) Yes, OneDrive could absolutely get hacked -- but it's not what you should worry about. (I'll share what you should worry about instead.)

TEH Podcast

In this week's TEH podcast, Kay's back! We talk about what Apple announced, how Prime Day has become about much more than just Amazon. Gary recommends a non-techie book, Kay recommend's Alex Trebek's book, and I recommend crushing it, for therapy. And more. Always more.

TEH 114: Apple surprises, Prime Days, batteries, and crushing things for fun.

Stay safe & healthy. Wear a mask. Above all, be kind. In fact, be even kinder... we all need it right now.
