#1035 – How to Avoid an Account Recovery Scam

Scams are everywhere

I've been listening to a podcast I discovered recently, The Pefect Scam, produced by AARP. Each episode they share not just tips and tricks to avoid scams, but feature an example of a scam, a victim, and its outcome.

The stories are heartbreaking.

This week my featured article is on a scam I see every single day, and it frustrates me no end: the account recovery scam.

The situation is this: you've lost access to an important account, and you're desperate. Someone comes along and leaves a comment on one of the account recovery videos or articles you've seen that seems to endorse a particular hacker or account recovery service. They promise that they can get your account back.

It's a trap. It's a scam. At best, you'll only lose money.
